Cogeco IPTV won't load M3U URL
Default firewall blocks the port. Ask your IPTV provider for an HTTPS (port 443) M3U URL — almost every reputable provider exposes one. The Hitron CGN3 allows 443 unconditionally.
Cogeco operates in mid-sized Ontario and Québec cities (Hamilton, Burlington, Trois-Rivières, Sherbrooke). Its DOCSIS network is competent, but the Hitron CGN3 gateway has a notably tighter default firewall than Bell, Rogers, or Telus, which trips up IPTV M3U fetches over non-standard ports.
Cogeco Fibre+ Gig and Gig 1.5 are excellent for IPTV — comparable to Shaw and Rogers at the same tier. Peering with Toronto and Montréal is fast; Canadian IPTV providers will feel near-local.
What breaks: the Hitron CGN3 firewall blocks unsolicited inbound (fine) but also rate-limits long-lived TCP streams on non-443 ports, the default DNS is slow, and the gateway's port-forwarding UI is buggy enough that manual exemptions sometimes fail to persist.
On Cogeco: switch the Fire Stick's DNS to 1.1.1.1, use an HTTPS-only (port 443) M3U URL from your IPTV provider, and if the gateway blocks anything, place the Fire Stick in a DMZ — it's the cleanest workaround on a Hitron CGN3.

Hitron CGN3 firmware sometimes initialises with degraded QoS after reboot. Reboot the Fire Stick *after* the modem has been up for 5 minutes — order matters here too.
Known firmware bug. Use DMZ for the Fire Stick instead — it's a single-device exemption, safer than blanket port-forwarding, and survives firmware updates.
