Rogers Ignite IPTV freezing during NHL games
NHL game windows overlap exactly with Rogers' busiest peak (7–10 PM). Wired Ethernet via a USB-C/OTG adapter for the Fire Stick removes Wi-Fi contention entirely — this is the single biggest fix.
Rogers Ignite uses the same Comcast XB6/XB7 hardware as US cable — solid for IPTV at the speed tier, but the gateway is opinionated about Wi-Fi management. The default 'WiFi Boost' feature can degrade IPTV by shuffling devices between bands mid-stream.
Ignite 1.5 Gbps and Ignite Gigabit are very capable for 4K IPTV. The XB7 / XB8 gateways support Wi-Fi 6 / 6E natively — paired with a Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd gen, also Wi-Fi 6E), real-world throughput tops 800 Mbps wireless.
What breaks: 'WiFi Boost' mid-stream rebands the Fire Stick, the default DNS (rogers.com) resolves IPTV server CNAMEs slowly, and the gateway's parental-control engine occasionally throws CAPTCHAs at IPTV M3U playlist fetches.
On Rogers Ignite, disable 'WiFi Boost' from the Rogers app, switch the Fire Stick DNS to 1.1.1.1, and pin the Fire Stick to the 5 GHz SSID by giving the 5 GHz band a different name from 2.4 GHz in the gateway settings. These three steps cumulatively eliminate ~85% of Rogers Ignite IPTV complaints.

Toggle 'WiFi Boost' OFF in the Rogers app. With it on, the XB7 actively rebands the Fire Stick mid-stream — every reband drops the IPTV connection for 1.5–3 seconds.
Rogers' default parental-control engine intercepts unrecognised M3U fetches. In the Rogers app, set the Fire Stick to 'No Restrictions' as a device-level override.
